Groß Schauener Seenkette Nature Reserve

Highlight • Lake

The Groß Schauener Seenkette is a shallow-water chain of lakes in the eponymous 2124.92 hectare nature reserve, which exists since 27 April 2000. It includes six lakes.
The lakes and the surrounding area are home to various species of marsh and water birds. These include the Bittern, the Crested Grebe, the Mute Swan and the Greylag Goose. The nearby high voltage pylons offer nesting places for ospreys. Furthermore, the chain of lakes is resting and wintering area for migratory birds.
For example, common frogs and reptiles are the water frog, the grass snake and the common toad. Also the Rotbauchunke and the rare Smattnatter are to be found in the outskirts of the lakes.
In the lakes, as well as the adjacent wet meadows and forest fens grow among other things lake and pond roses, marsh calla, Wasserschwertlilien, orchid herb, sundew and king fern.
Due to the undisturbed location and the spaciousness of the area, the otter can be found in the lakes of the water chain.

Rundling Village of Bugk

Highlight • Settlement

The village Bugk was originally planned as a roundling. Bugk was first mentioned in documents in 1416. Rundlinge are usually located on a high place near a lowland. The settlement form is an indication that Bugk settled in Slavs. Also the name "Bugk" comes from the Lower Slavic and means "beech". He points out that in this area also other tree species were to be found except the pine.

Bugker Sahara

Highlight • Natural

The Bugker Sahara is a very nutrient-poor and dry sand area, which extends east of Bugk to the large Wucksee. Even if it does not look like it at first glance, such areas are full of life and home to sand specialists, such as the mountain sand bells (Jasione montana) and the ant lions (Myrmeleontidae). An information panel contains more details about this particular habitat.

This pine forest is special. He developed naturally via seedling. Most trees probably date from before 1900 and take the space they need. The open sandy areas between the individual pines are covered with silvergrass, mosses and lichens and give the forest a fairytale look.
