The Orangery Café, Markeaton Park

Highlight • Historical Site

Orangery that is now a cafe. Previously part of Markeaton Hall (now demolished). The orangery and other outbuildings survive and there is a series of small craft businesses in the outbuildings. The cafe is okay (no better) and there are 2 other cafes very close by (to the west on Markeaton Lane). The one at the Markeaton Garden Centre (The Potting Shed) is recommended over the others.

Museum of Making at the Derby Silk Mill and Cathedral Green

Highlight • Rest Area

Site of arguably Britain's first factory (Silk Mill) which is now a museum. Also has a statue of Bonnie Prince Charlie celebrating his advance on London (which didn't get much further than Derby) and a swing bridge over the River Derwent (which can be cycled across). Nice sitting area very close to Derby city centre.

End of the Pennine Cycleway at Derby Station

Highlight • Rest Area

The Pride Park entrance to Derby Railway station marks the end of the Pennine Cycleway (NCN 68) that runs between Berwick-on-Tweed and Derby over lots of hills in the Pennines.
There is no formal sign showing that this is the end of the route (apparently it was removed when upgrading the station and then lost!) but there is a cycle sign where the longest trip shown is 7 minutes.

Riverside Cycle Path, Derby

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Traffic free along the riverside and lined by blackberry bushes this is a great way to get through Derby avoiding traffic and busy roads. Only downside is that the path is shared with pedestrians and not segregated in anyway even by path markings making it a game of dodge the walker at busy times.
However lovely way to get into or through the city.
