View of Rheingrafenstein Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

Very beautiful landscape.
View from the town of Bad Münster am Stein.
Its origins are legendary: the devil is said to have built the castle on the steep, 245 m high porphyry rock. What is certain is that it dates back to the 11th century and was the ancestral home of the Lords of Stein, the later Wild and Rhine Counts.
Since the French troops of Louis XIV blew up the castle in 1689, it has been a ruin and at the same time a landmark of Bad Münster am Stein-Ebernburg.
The somewhat steep climb is rewarded with a wonderful view of the district and the surrounding area. The Rheingrafenstein castle ruins are located directly and conspicuously in the Bad Münster am Stein district on the other side of the Nahe. The ascent begins adventurously with the crossing of the hand-pulled ferry; it takes about 30 minutes.
In the ferry-free winter time, the Rheingrafenstein can also be easily hiked via the Speckerbrücke in the Ebernburg district.
Definitely worth seeing!

Salinental Graduation Towers

Highlight • Monument

Not only nice to drive past, but also to take a deep breath and breathe in the brine mist. It is best to plan a quarter of an hour for this.

The bridge houses are built in timber frame construction and stand on the Old Nahe Bridge. It was built as a stone bridge in 1300. On eight pillars, it bridged the two arms of the Nahe that flow through the city: the Nahe and the Mühlenkanal.

Historic Old Town, Bad Kreuznach

Highlight • Historical Site

Old new town or historic old town? There can be confusion if you are not from Bad Kreuznach. In Bad Kreuznach, however, one thing is clear: the new town is the old town, i.e. the historical center of Bad Kreuznach.
This oddity is historical. Originally there were two settlements on the left and right of the Nahe, which were repeatedly devastated by armed conflicts. At the beginning of the 13th century, Count Gottfried von Sponheim had the Kauzenburg built above the north bank of the Nahe. The construction of a new city began, the "Neustadt".
It covers the area between the Alter Nahebrücke and Hofgartenstraße as well as between the palace gardens and the Stadthaus. It is characterized by its marketplaces, romantic half-timbered houses, narrow streets and striking monuments.
Again and again there was and is a dispute about the name: "Neustadt" in the sense of the proper name or "Altstadt" in today's sense of a city function. In April 2013, the Bad Kreuznach City Council officially put an end to the discussions by deciding to name it "Kreuznacher Neustadt - Historischer Stadtkern".

Wilhelmsbrücke with Towers

Highlight • Bridge

The Wilhelmsbrücke with Fischerturm completed in 1904. The far above
sculptor Ludwig Cauer, who is well-known outside the city limits, created the tower relief,
reminiscent of the local fishermen living in this part of town.
