The text of the inscription reads: "In Kiev/Ukraine, the site of a former camp for German prisoners of war was transformed into a park in the 1950s. The grounds of the arboretum also served the war for decades: as an airfield in World War II, then as an American military camp and camp for German prisoners of war. One of the survivors of the Kiev captivity picked up a chestnut tree in the Ukrainian park in 1999.
