Donnerschwee

Highlight • Settlement

Donnerschwee in the northeast of the city of Oldenburg emerged from an old farming village that probably existed since the 9th century. There has been a castle near Donnerschwee since the 11th century. The first documented mention was in 1237 as "Thonerswe". But finds from excavations prove that people lived here 4000 years ago. Like the other old villages in the region, Donnerschwee was an Esch settlement.

Donnerschwee has belonged to the Oldenburg bailiwick since ancient times. After the French period (1810-1813), the village became part of the rural community of Oldenburg. In 1897 the rural community was divided; Donnerschwee became part of the municipality of Ohmstede. As a result of the administrative reform of 1933, most of the municipality of Ohmstede, including Donnerschwee, came under the independent city of Oldenburg.

Oldenburg (Fliegerdenkmal - no name), Lower Saxony

ZIP code 26127

Coordinates: 53.1733342 N / 8.1918656 E

The memorial consists of a 14 m high obelisk and is located in the middle of the small Bürgerbusch in Oldenburg, near Alexanderstrasse.

The substructure bears the memorial plaque on the front and a sandstone cross bearer on the other three sides. On all sides there are symbols of the sword and the rising aviator sun. NS signs have been removed.

For propaganda purposes, the memorial was not inaugurated in Ahlhorn, but at the same time as the airport in Oldenburg on August 20, 1933. The draft comes from the government master builder a. D. Head of Studies Dr. Biebel, the suggestion for the location came from Mayor Dr. Rabeling.

Cycle path connection along the Nordtangente

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

There is a great connection along the north bypass here. This connects Nadoster Straße and Hochheider Weg in a great way. It goes over a hill. Very nice paved route.
