What to expect on Middle Fork Trail loop from Middle Fork Trailhead
Expect a journey through an "enchanted forest" alongside the wild and scenic Middle Fork Snoqualmie River. You'll start by crossing the unusual arched Gateway Bridge, then follow a mix of singletrack and old 1930s-era railroad beds. The trail offers intermittent views of Garfield Mountain and Stegosaurus Butte, with beautiful moss-covered trees creating a rainforest-like atmosphere. While much of it maintains a gentle grade, be ready for rocky sections, creek crossings, and occasional washouts that contribute to its difficult rating, making it best for experienced joggers comfortable with varied terrain.
Planning your visit
Before you head out, remember a recreation pass, such as a Northwest Forest Pass or America the Beautiful Pass, is required for parking at the Middle Fork Snoqualmie River Trailhead, and you can't buy it on-site. The trailhead offers vault toilets and picnic sites, but potable water is not available, so bring plenty. Be aware that flooding and debris flows can regularly impact short segments of the trail, and stream fords may become difficult or dangerous during high water. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed.
