Linverville

Highlight • Settlement

Saint-Ouen church modified in the 18th and 19th centuries, with a sundial. It houses a stained glass window of the “Miraculous Fishing” as well as three ex-voto boats. The pillars and arcades which support the tower, placed between choir and nave, belong to the Romanesque style. The arches of the vault fall on consoles or modillions, representing human heads. It is the only part of the church which offers any interest.

Gratot Castle

Highlight • Castle

A really interesting facility. The complex was built in the 13th century as a moated castle and rebuilt and expanded several times in the centuries of its history. It therefore shows a variety of architectural styles and is completely surrounded by water ditches.
Builder was the family of Argouges. The Gratot was owned by the family from 1251 to 1777.
In the 19th century, the complex had a number of owners, which they greatly neglected. Local farmers used the building as a barn and warehouse. At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle was finally abandoned.
Entrance with dog allowed on a leash. Costs Euro 4.50.
