Each of the 6067 saplings planted here in 2018/19 represent one life lost from a British ship during the Battle of Jutland 31 May-1 June 1916. It's only when you stand here and look at all the trees planted over the 8 acre site that you get a real understanding of the size of the sacrifice made by the men of the Royal Navy.
