If you turn left on the path after the Kleinheppacher Kopf (like we did), you come into the forest and have to walk a steep, barely visible forest path. So from the Kleinheppacher Kopf it's better to go through the vineyards to Großheppach.

We were almost alone on the trail. We only met three groups of two, and even at the normally very busy Kleinheppacher Kopf, there was no one there. We could hardly believe it. The descent to Gundelsbach is very, very steep in places. Good footwear is a plus.
