Walking Trail Through Gutspark von Speck

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Even if Komoot doesn't indicate the route in the planning, it is allowed. Open the gate and go through... Beautiful surroundings, not many people because there are no cyclists and it is limited by gates. Highly recommended!!

Former Estate Speck

Highlight • Historical Site

Karl Wilhelm von Haugwitz acquired the estate in 1810, and about a century later it was sold to the state of Mecklenburg due to economic malaise. In 1929 the State Councilor and publisher Dr. Kurt Hermann owned the property and had the manor house built as a hunting seat from 1929 to 1937, incorporating some parts of a previous building.
After 1945 it was briefly used by the Soviet commander's office, to house refugees and as the seat of the forest administration.
From 1954 the Ministry of the Interior used the house as a convalescent home for the border police. After renovation work, the National People's Army (NVA) took over the property.
From 1991 to 1998 the Mecklenburg-West Pomeranian National Park Office was housed there.
The mansion is privately owned.

Speck Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The church in Speck is a highlight of the small town. It is already the third church building at this point and was consecrated in 1877 and renovated in 1996 after many years of decline during the GDR era. The church is open to the public in the summer season. Among other things, the blue coffered ceiling is beautiful.

Fuchsbau Café

Highlight • Cafe

We came here after a long hike. The new owners are very welcoming and the food is great. Incidentally, we have a nice conversation. I can only recommend the rest here. If we are in the area again, we will definitely be over.
Highly recommended are the cheese platter and the Soljanka. There are also baked bread !!! Wonderful!

Käflingsberg Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

At 100 meters, the Käflingsberg is the highest elevation in the area. There is a 55 meter high observation and mobile communications tower on the mountain. The viewing platform is at a height of 31 meters. If you climb the 167 steps, the platform offers you a fantastic view of the national park, the Müritz and many smaller lakes and, in good weather, as far as Waren, Neustrelitz and Neubrandenburg.

The tower, which opened in 2000, was paid for by Deutsche Telekom. The aim of the building was to improve the coverage of the mobile phone network. The tower, which is used as an observation tower, fire watch tower and mobile communications transmission tower, has belonged to the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since 2005.

From the end of the dead end in Speck there is a beautiful hiking trail into the nature park. Parking is possible at the 700-year-old summer linden tree.
The view from the radio and observation tower is great. Forests and lakes as far as the eye can see. In clear weather you can see Waren and other towns on the …

Today the weather was better than predicted, only at the top of the tower a jacket was required again thanks to the wind.
Unfortunately the Fuchsbau is now closed, but there were delicious venison meatballs there 😋

On our last day of vacation, two smaller activities are on the program, first again in the Müritz National Park and later a detour to the town of Waren.

We start in the national park village of Speck, a 40-soul nest located relatively centrally in the national park. In the darker days, to the east of here, Soviet tanks crushed …
