Panzerberg Wentorfer Lohe

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Panzerberg (Tank Hill) in the former Wentorfer Lohe military training area is a "relic" from the Bundeswehr era.

It's not very high and looks inconspicuous - but it isn't.

It's very steep and slippery, and even on foot it's quite challenging.

When you climb it, it's hard to imagine tanks being able to climb it, but it's possible. Unimogs can manage it too.

It's best not to even attempt it on a bike/mountain bike, as I know from personal experience, because there's a risk of falling off with a backward or forward somersault over the handlebars. If you pedal hard to gain momentum, the front wheel will lift off, and then you should abort the attempt.

I don't know if real professional cyclists could manage it, but it's better not to try...
the risk of injury is too great. You need a lot of momentum, and then you can't control it anymore...
However, it's very suitable as a running track for training à la Rocky Balboa.

Panzerberg Wentorfer Lohe

Highlight • Structure

The Panzerberg in the former Wentorfer Lohe training area is a "remnant" from the Bundeswehr era. It is not big and not high either, but it is very steep and from the top you have great views of the surrounding beautiful nature.

It always appeals to me, but I would advise anyone against trying to go up or down there. The photos don't really show how steep it really is. Up one would dismount with a backward somersault and down headfirst the handlebars. In addition, there are a lot of broken glass on both sides. Unfortunately, there are still too many chaotic people with too little sense.
Today I pushed my bike up and down and just pushing it up is exhausting enough.

On the other hand, it is very well suited as a running track for training à la Rocky Balboa.

Wentorfer Lohe Nature Reserve

Highlight • Forest

The Wentorfer Lohe is a former training area. The area has no longer been used for military purposes since 1997. Today, nature is the focus and various measures are being taken to protect it as part of the “Natural Heritage Lohe” project.
