Herreshagen is situated in the valley between the northern elevations of Stentenberg and Warenkopf and the southern heights of Gummershardt and Sonnenberg. In 1535, the place was first mentioned in a document by Huppert van Hersthagen being listed in the freedoms list of freelance Adolf Möllenbeck. The village of Herreshagen belonged to the imperial rule of Gimborn-Neustadt until 1806
