Eggeweg Parallel Trail (L 763) – Karlsschanze Section

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Coming from the hiking car park on the L 763, you first have to walk a little bit north on the Eggeweg. After about 50 meters the trail turns right and leads slightly uphill. Once at the top, thanks to the trees that fell victim to the storms and the bark beetle, you have a beautiful view of the forest on the Karlsschanze. Then it goes steeply downhill until the trail meets the L 763 again. The steep section is interspersed with many relatively smooth stones. In damp weather you should be careful here. If you drive uphill in a different direction, you have serious problems with traction in damp conditions and may have to push.

Together with the following sections "Trail am Eggekreuz" and "Trail descent to Willebadessen train station" forms one of the few pleasant options to get to the Eggeweg on a trail from Willebadessen. Most of the other trails in the area are too steep to climb well in the uphill. This is possible here, however, because even the steepest passages are still easy to drive. In the opposite direction, the 3 trails naturally offer a fine descent pleasure over about 2 km.

Bierbaum's Nagel Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

A gentleman named Bierbaum, owner of the Borlinghausen manor, had the "Bierbaums Nagel" observation tower built in 1849 to give the rural population a way to earn money during economically difficult years. The tower was a surprise gift for his wife, who came from Kassel and suffered greatly from homesickness. From the tower she was to have the opportunity to see the landmark of her beloved hometown, the Hercules on the Wilhelmshöhe. It is not known whether Mrs. Bierbaum was cured of her homesickness in this way. The beautiful view is still worth climbing the tower today.

Coming from Bierbaums Nagel, this section forms the upper section of the donkey spar. Technically a bit more interesting than the lower section that follows after crossing the forest path.

Schwarzbach Bridge and Ford

Highlight • Bridge

At this point, the Schwarzbach can be crossed in a ford. However, the stream is often quite deep, so that a passage usually leads to wet feet and is only recommended in summer. Otherwise, the bridge can be used. A seat for a short rest is also available.
