Like almost all towns and communities, Gingen also endeavored to always have the most important food - drinking water - available for its citizens. Those in charge recognized the continuously increasing demand for water early on and tried to take this development into account by developing and capturing new sources. As part of these efforts, the Sieben-Brunnen spring was also included in Gingen's water supply: Knowing full well that it originates below the Hunnenburg in Kuchen, they quickly (and secretly) set about registering the collection rights with the state administration for an annual rent of 5 marks. According to tradition, the mayor of Gingen was just signing the document on May 3, 1887, when representatives of the neighboring community entered the office to assert their claims.
When the first water flowed from the pipes, the planners who had conceived the project, the local councillors who had taken responsibility for a bold measure and the craftsmen who had carried out the work were delighted. But the people who were most delighted were those who had snatched the rights to the Sieben-Brunnen spring from the Kuchen residents with a clever move. That is why, even today - more than 100 years later - the people of Gingen do not mind being called "snatchers" all over the country.
