The Doornpanne, together with De Hoge Blekker and De Schipgatduinen, forms a 240 hectare dune massif. The central part is owned by Aquaduin and functions as a water extraction area. Other parts have the status of Flemish Nature Reserve and are managed by the Flemish Community.
The area includes diverse dune types, from drifting dunes and dune grasslands to densely vegetated pans and fixed inner dunes.

The core of the dune complex consists of a wide depression (panne), the vegetation of which forms a mosaic of forest, shrubs and open dune vegetation.

There is a belt of drifting dunes around it, including the highest dune top on the Flemish coast (the Hoge Blekker 33 m).

South Abbey Mill (Koksijde)
