Parish Church of San Giovanni in Ottavo (Pieve del Tho)

Highlight • Religious Site

The Pieve di San Giovanni in Ottavo (called Pieve del Tho) can be found just over a kilometer from Brisighella. It is the oldest parish church built in the Lamone Valley.

Its origins are very remote and date back to Galla Placidia, daughter of Theodosius, who had it built with the remains of a temple dedicated to Jupiter Ammon. The time of its construction is unknown, it probably arose between the 8th and 10th centuries.

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Monticino

Highlight • Religious Site

Sanctuary of Monticino: stands on the third hill of Brisighella. It was built 1758-59 to replace an existing building. It houses a sacred terracotta image depicting the Madonna and Child dating back to 1626. The small image represents the half-figure Virgin, dressed in a reddish tunic, surrounded by a white band. A dark green coat covers her head. The interior of the sanctuary, with a single nave, is decorated with elegant pilasters with Ionic capitals. The main altar is covered with precious marble. In the apse there are frescoes by the Faenza painter Savino Lega (Faenza, 1813-1889) [12]. The facade was significantly enlarged in 1926 on a project by Edoardo Collamarini.

Carnè Refuge

Highlight • Mountain Hut

Set like a jewel between the plaster casts of Rontana and those of Castelnuovo, in the Municipality of Brisighella, the Ca 'Carnè Visitor Center is one of the most evocative corners of the entire Romagna hill.

The center offers numerous services for the visitor: the information point of the Parco della Vena del Gesso Romagnola, the conference room, the "Stanza del Clima" teaching room and the naturalistic museum dedicated to the fauna of the Vena del Gesso, which houses finds of almost all the most interesting animal species in the park.
