Chestnut Trail (Keschtnweg)

Highlight • Trail

The Keschtnweg leads along the Isarco Valley and is a long-distance hiking trail. The individual sections of the route can be done as day hikes. The Keschtnweg offers many sights and always great views. Very rewarding in the fall.

November 20, 2022,Keschtnweg (Kastanienweg) Etappe 4: Klausen - Brixen / Sentiero del Castagno tappa 4: Chiusa - Bressanone
A sun-kissed, very scenic hike (especially in autumn) high above the central Isarco Valley on partly wide cart paths, partly narrow forest and meadow paths and occasionally on asphalted side roads, mostly with wonderful views of the Dolomites (Aferer Geisler, Villnösser Geislerspitzen, Peitler Kofl ).

Today, we headed straight from the hotel uphill to the pilgrimage church of St. Cyril. We continued along the Chestnut Trail, always with a view of the Dolomites. We passed the Renaissance castle of Velturno.
The trail then leads to Säben Abbey and then steeply down to Klausen.

Very nice tour with great views and some very narrow and steep paths. A visit to the Säben monastery is a must on this tour. A steep descent from the monastery via stairs is exhausting at the end.

A wonderful tour that you can do at any time of year.
There were a few icy spots that we passed without any problems.
The view of the Plose and the Geisler group accompanies you for most of the way.
The Feldthurns Castle can be visited from March to November and is one of the most beautiful castles in South …

Today we hiked the Keschtnweg from Brixen train station to Klausen. Since we've hiked the Keschdeweg in the Palatinate region several times, we were able to compare the two. Of course, there weren't any chestnuts or chestnut trees around at this time of year, but there were plenty of old chestnut trees. The trail truly lives up to its name. …

This time there have been a few more photos, because one church on the way was more beautiful than the other. And the Säben monastery was just impressive. Year after year we looked up in amazement from Klausen. This year we finally managed to visit this wonderful facility.

There aren't more of these centers. They cost half as much as hotels.
There are two more, Merano and Bolzano. I asked for the latter but the …

Fulfilled a long-cherished wish today and hiked the Keschtnweg part 1 from the Neustift monastery to Klausen with Ralf. This part of the Keschtnweg is often offered by the hotels as a guided hike, but only the stretch from Feldthurns to Chiusa of around 4.5 kilometres. We chose the lesser-known variant from Kloster Neustift to Bozen. (is divided into 3 …
