Stoszowice Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Baroque church built in the years 1763-1781. In the basement of the church, in the family crypt, are placed the ashes of the famous German romantic poet, Maurice Strachwitz, transferred here in 1819 - 38 years after his death. In 2011, in the family crypt of the Strachwitz family, Countess Monika de Lerrison Casanove was buried - the granddaughter of the last pre-war owner of the castle in Stoszowice - Karolina Strachwitz.

Stoszowice Castle

Highlight • Castle

Peterwitz Castle. Not accessible, but can be admired from the gate. In 1536, Gregor von Reichenbach von Peterwitz sold the Frankenstein hereditary bailiwick, which he had previously owned, to the town of Frankenstein. His son, Fabian von Reichenbach, Lord of Peterwitz, was governor of Frankenstein from 1581 until his death in 1605 and built Peterwitz Castle around 1600.

After the First Silesian War, Peterwitz fell to Prussia in 1742. Following the reorganization of Prussia, it belonged to the Province of Silesia from 1815 onward and, from 1818 onward, was incorporated into the Frankenstein District in Silesia, with which it remained until 1945.

In 1820, Peterwitz passed to the Counts Strachwitz, who had been based in Upper Silesia since the Middle Ages, and who owned it until its expropriation in 1945. Source: Wikipedia
