Church of Our Lady of Angels in Monkinie - a historic wooden parish church dedicated to Our Lady of Angels in the village of Monkinie (Podlaskie Voivodeship, Augustów County).

A three-aisled church with a 12 m high tower. It was built on a hill in 1922-1924 through the efforts of local parishioners. At the same time, a wooden vicarage was built next to the church. The parish was established on August 2, 1925 after part of the area of the former Wigry parish was separated. In its history, the church has been extensively renovated twice. In 1991 a free-standing bell tower was added (Translated from Wikipedia).

Narrow-gauge railway

Highlight • Monument

The village of Plocično was founded in the 17th century as a settlement of tar smiths. During the First World War, the Germans built a huge sawmill here with a network of narrow-gauge forest railways for transporting timber. After the end of the First World War, the site was bought by the Provisional Citizens' Council of the Suwałki Region. At that time a workers' settlement was founded, which today bears the name of Płociczno-Tartak. The sawmill was destroyed during World War II, but rebuilt - it became the largest timber factory in the country. Today it is privatized and operates under the name "Paged"-Tartaki Wschód sp.z o.o. The narrow-gauge railway was in operation until 1986. Today, most of the line is closed, except for the renovated 9 km section from Płociczno to Krusznik-Green Inn. In 1941 the Germans carried out archaeological research in the Płociczno area. Interesting artefacts have been found in a Roman-era cemetery (near the WWI cemetery).
