In order to enable the several thousand-strong crew to escape from the huge barracks, two gates were built, which also had a defensive character. One of them is the gate built in 1837, called the "Mikhailovsky Gates" in the Russian period. Since 1918, it has been the "Priest Józef Poniatowski" gate. It was given a classicist architectural design, and on the southern side (the side of the barracks) its architecture was enriched with Tuscan columns. A wooden bridge on brick pillars led to the gate across the moat, which was dismantled after World War II to facilitate car access to the nearby bakery.
