Altenhoven Orchard Nature Reserve

Highlight • Natural Monument

The Altenhoven orchard covers an area of 12.5 ha and has more than 1200 high-stemmed fruit trees. It is the largest orchard of its kind in the Grand Duchy! The preservation of this orchard is guaranteed by natur&ëmwelt/Fondation Hëllef fir d'Natur and the local section of Bettembourg-Mondercange of n&ë, who have been involved since the 90s.

In 1998, the Um Bierg orchard was declared a national nature reserve. This protection is justified by the great diversity of animals and plants.

The orchard is also used for extensive grazing, leased to an organic cattle farmer who refrains from using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides in order to preserve the diversity of flora.

The orchard is not only a place of relaxation but also a historical place. In 1924, Mr. J.P. Altenhoven built a huge farm of which the orchard was a part.

If you are interested in this impressive site, don't miss a visit!

Or come every year in October and November for our traditional "orchard days" and help us make apple juice and maintain the trees.
