Running through the Lake District National Park, the River Cocker flows through the Buttermere Valley, Crummock Water, Lorton Vale and Cockermouth, before joining the River Derwent. 12 miles (19 km) in length, the small river is home to many species of wildlife such as salmon, sticklebacks and eels.

Highlight • Historical Site

There has been a church here in Lorton since the 13th century, however this current incarnation dates from the 19th century. Within the church, a particular highlight is a set of 20 kneelers, each 14 feet (4 m) long, painstakingly created by a dedicated and skilled group of women from the Vale of Lorton. Magnificent needlework!
