Easy road ride. Great for any fitness level. Mostly well-paved surfaces and easy to ride. The starting point of the route is accessible with public transport.

Talvera Bridge cycle path, Bolzano

Highlight • Cycleway

Can I just pass on that the cycle network in Bolzano is very well developed 👍🏻
We came from Merano and drove a few kilometers through Bolzano. Great cycle network but you don't have to see the city at least the way to the market square wasn't necessarily nice.

Sigmundskron Junction

Highlight • Cycleway

This is where the bike paths from Bolzano, Unterland, Adige Valley to Merano and the Überetsch come together. Picturesque bridge over the Adige, view of Sigmundskron Castle, artistically wrapped incinerator with district heating - and the starting and ending point of my "Leuchtenburg eight".

Great bike path, ideal for training. Unfortunately a bit crowded on the weekends.

Sigmundskron Castle (also Firmian, Italian Castel Firmiano)
Southwest of Bolzano, above the small village of Frangart in the municipality of Eppan, Sigmundskron Castle stands enthroned on a porphyry rock, one of the largest castle complexes in South Tyrol. The original name "Formigar" comes from the Latin "formicaria." It is one of the oldest known names of a castle in South Tyrol. The building was first mentioned under this name around 945 AD; later, the name was changed to "Firmian." The Italian name for Sigmundskron is still Firmiano today.
Owned by the Bishop of Trento since 1027, the complex passed to Sigmund "the Rich," the Prince of Tyrol, in 1473. It was only then that the castle received its current name, "Sigmundskron Castle." The castle also owes its name to its shape, as the expansive grounds resemble a crown (Sigmund's Crown). The castle is also a political symbol for many South Tyroleans, as the "Los von Trient" (Los of Trient) took place here in 1957, a large popular demonstration led by Silvius Magnago to demand independent autonomy and protest against the non-compliance with the Paris Agreement.
