The two islands of Lake Lauerz

Highlight • Lake

From here you have a good view of both islands: "Schwanau", the larger one with the castle ruins and a restaurant, and the "small Schwanau".

View of Lake Lauerz

Highlight • Viewpoint

In terms of popularity, Lake Lauerz is somewhat overshadowed by its neighbors Lake Zug and Lake Lucerne. But that does not detract from its beauty. It is framed by high mountains. At its deepest point, it is only 14 meters deep, making it one of the shallowest lakes in the country.

Parish Church of St. Leonhard, Ingenbohl

Highlight • Religious Site

Parish Church of St. Leonhard, Ingebohl
The chapel in Ingenbohl was first mentioned in a letter of indulgence in 1387. St. Leonhard and St. Pantaleon had always been the patron saints of Ingenbohl.
Until the beginning of the 13th century, the chapel belonging to Schwyz was dedicated to St. Pantaleon and then to St. Leonhard. From 1479 to 1481, a new building with three altars was built on the same site. This chapel was enlarged in 1607. The cemetery was laid out in 1613. Ingenbohl was able to separate from the large parish of Schwyz in 1618 and became its own parish. The new parish church was built between 1658 and 1661. The ossuary was also built at the same time. The church tower was renovated in 1832. In 1927, the Schwyz architect Josef Steiner was commissioned to enlarge the church and to completely renovate it. Around 50 years later, from 1976 to 1978 and in 2011, further restoration work followed. The oldest bell dates from 1403.

Entrance to the Goldau landslide area

Highlight • Natural Monument

After the Basel earthquake of 1356, the Goldau landslide of September 2, 1806, is considered the second-largest natural disaster in historical times. The resulting pioneering areas were gradually colonized by plants and animals. A rich mosaic of dry, humid, open, and wooded habitats developed. These habitats form the basis for exceptional biodiversity. The area is particularly known for its orchid populations. However, the occurrence of rare insects is at least as significant.
