In 2008, only one beaver family lived on the section between the Bremgarten-Zufikon dam and the cantonal border with Lucerne. In 2013, in the Aargau Reus valley, four families with four to five animals per family were lodged here, according to the national inventory survey conducted every five years.
Gnash traces on trees and shrubs indicate that the beaver population has continued to increase in this Freiämter Reuss section. The area currently inhabits five or six families and a few individual animals.
