Absolutely recommendable swimming area to enjoy the crystal clear water of the Ybbs. There's a separate children's area for splashing around outside of the river current, and a simple restaurant.

Lovingly designed here are a few cars of the Ybbstalbahn. The bike path now runs along the former route. Inside the train you will find everything original furnished, equipment, old conductor uniforms and an interesting video. A nice highlight on the bike path!

Hollenstein an der Ybbs

Highlight • Settlement

Hollenstein – an idyllic village in the Ybbs Valley and a popular stop for cyclists on the Ybbs Valley Cycle Path. The route follows the Ybbs River through an impressive river and mountain landscape, offering numerous opportunities for breaks in nature or a refreshing dip in the river. In Hollenstein, the village center, with its restaurants and regional charm, invites you to linger. A fantastic route through a beautiful landscape. A very scenic tour, well worth it.

The "Sheep Cheese Express" was the affectionate nickname of the former Ybbs Valley Railway, which once traversed the Ybbs Valley and was used to transport sheep cheese and other goods. Today, an original carriage, now a "time travel carriage," in the center of Hollenstein an der Ybbs commemorates this history. Inside, visitors will find a small exhibition with original equipment, photos, videos, and eyewitness accounts of the railway and regional life of that era. The modern Ybbs Valley Cycle Path largely follows the former railway line and passes directly by the carriage. For cyclists, this offers an ideal opportunity for a break with cultural insights into the valley's past – surrounded by nature and with direct reference to the history of the route.

Wentsteinhammer Historic Hammer Mill

Highlight • Historical Site

Here you can get information about the old hammer mill. A covered barbecue area, a playground and the well-groomed surrounding invite next to the splashing of the stream to a longer break. A romantic place where there is also a camperplace and a toilet.

It was a brilliant but also strenuous tour, the cooling down on the descent, it poured briefly

The tour starts in Hollenstein on the Ybbstal cycle path which we follow to Göstling. From there you unfortunately have to drive 9 kilometers on a busy road to Lassing. One of the most beautiful valleys in Lower Austria, the Mendlingtal, begins in Lassing, but the steepest section with a gradient of up to 17% is still waiting there.

Thanks to the river, the steep climbs were easily managed. Maria even went swimming in the Ybbs, though not swimming as it was too shallow. A very pretty late Gothic church in St. Georgen am Reith, still beautifully decorated for Corpus Christi. The 75km are worth it.
