Highlight • Historical Site

The remains that currently survive date from the 13th century. Various reforms were made in the 17th century and it was finally abandoned by the monks in 1821, passing into private hands. It was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1992, being restored and conditioned for visits by the Castilla-La Mancha Community Board in 2018.
Of the monastic complex, the apse, the sacristy, the transept and the southern nave of the church are preserved, as well as some walls of other dependencies.

Monastery of Santa María de Bonaval

Highlight • Religious Site

The Monastery of Santa María de Bonaval is a 12th century Cistercian cloister on the banks of the Jarama. It is incredible how it is still standing given its current state. However, among its remains its great beauty can be seen. He is currently in the recovery process.

Hoces del Jarama

Highlight • Gorge

At this point, the Jarama River is boxed in by a ravine flanked by stone cliffs. It is impressive how the humidity of the river has made life sprout in this canyon. The views, especially if the vultures are flying, are unforgettable.

Medieval bridge, with three eyes and a cobbled floor. It is crossed by the old road to Puebla de Valles that climbs between the rocks. Great views of the canyon, the river and the caves. From the bridge, a path goes down to the little beach that can be seen on the right bank, ideal for swimming on a hot day.

Hoces del Jarama

Highlight • Gorge

La Hoz del Jarama is a strip of land located between the well-known Cistercian Monastery of Bonaval and the Medieval Bridge (which many call “Roman”) of Valdesotos. In this section, the river twists and its bed is sometimes wedged between large walls of limestone rock.
