Tordera River

Highlight • River

If you are interested in doing the entire Tordera route by bike, from the source (Font Bona de Sant Marçal) to the mouth on the Blanes side, following the course of the Tordera river, you must be physically prepared to face otherwise, it is better to choose the option of doing the route in sections.

Remember that not all paths are cycleable, especially in the Montseny Natural Park, so if you want to cycle the route you must use the cycle tracks. In this case, the route of the Tourdera from the source to the mouth in Blanes is almost 77km, with a cumulative negative gradient (descent) of 1800m and a positive cumulative gradient (ascent) of 705m. Therefore, you must be well prepared physically if you want to do it in its entirety.

Sanctuary of Mare de Déu del Vilar

Highlight • Religious Site

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Vilar is a sanctuary in the municipality of Blanes (Selva) located in the Sierra de Marina, which acts as an important center of attraction for the whole region. The eponymous joys are a song in honor of the Virgin dating back to the seventeenth century. The building is a work included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.

The sanctuary is a monumental complex made up of the hermitage, the terraced farmhouse and the outer courtyards. The hermitage has a gabled roof with a barrel vault, a side chapel, an apse, a large presbytery with a two-storey head and a belfry at the foot of the nave. At the entrance there is a wide access porch. The apse is trapezoidal and covered with an edge vault and six ribs. The first floor of the head is formed by the octagonal enclosure of the sacristy and the second by the chancel where the image of the Virgin sporadically rests during the dates indicated.

Monument to the Angel

Highlight • Monument

Homage also to its glossator Jacint Verdaguer, whose image can be seen on the pedestal. It was erected in 1904 and is crowned by a stone angel with wings and a metal star. It was designed by Enric Monserdà. Eusebi Arnau made the model of the sculpture, cast in stone by Frederic Bechini. The ornamental part is the work of Joan Pujol.
