Biała Góra Lock

Highlight • Monument

The Biała Góra Lock is an impressive monument of hydrotechnics, considered the "Water Castle" of Żuławy. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century as the first element of the Nogat cascade, the task of which was to regulate the flow of the river and protect against floods. The chamber lock and weir on the Nogat and the lock on the Liwa River regulate the flow of water to this day, and thanks to modernization, they can be used by tourist units. The modern marina at the lock was built as part of the Żuławy Loop project. Cyclists riding through Żuławy can see the mastery of hydrotechnical engineering and the picturesque landscape of the floodplains.

The Lower Vistula Valley is covered by the protection program of the European Union called Natura 2000 as a place of valuable natural habitats and animal species. Protection areas throughout the European Union under the Natura 2000 banner constitute almost 1/5 (18%) of the area of the countries belonging to it. As of today, the Natura 2000 network in Poland covers approx. 20% of the country's land area.

This is where there was a border crossing and the border between the Second Polish Republic and Germany (1918-1939). The Vistula in the border section, by the decision of the Versailles Treaty, fell to Poland along with the 20-meter belt on its eastern shore.

Granaries of Grudziądz

Highlight • Historical Site

The granaries in Grudziądz are a unique complex of medieval grain warehouses built on the Vistula escarpment. Their massive walls served both a defensive function and protected against landslides. The characteristic silhouette of the granaries, visible from the Vistula, has become a symbol of the city. Today, some of the buildings have been adapted for museum and residential purposes. The panorama of the granaries from the river is one of the most recognizable views on the entire Vistula Bike Trail.
