Wiartel Parish Church

Wiartel - a village in Poland located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Pisz County, in the Pisz commune. Until 1954, the seat of the Wiartel commune. In the years 1975–1998, the town administratively belonged to the Suwałki Province.
The village was founded in 1700 as a casket settlement on 12 morga. Earlier, around 1570, a hammer mill and ironworks were established here, linked to the second steel plant in Jaśkowo. Huta Wiartel-Jaśkowo was run by hereditary tenants of Rudniki until 1725; later, the lack of raw material meant that it had to be brought from further surroundings, even from Mazovia. Eventually, in 1790, production was stopped, and its tasks were taken over by the ironworks in Wądołek.

A picturesquely situated Masurian lake next to the town of Pisz, surrounded by Piska Forest. The lake will certainly be appreciated by fishermen, because it is well stocked and provides peace and quiet surrounded by the beautiful Masurian nature. There are small islands in the southern part of the basin. On the south-west bank there is the village of Wiartel, and on the south-east bank, there is Wiartel Mały.
Lake area 178.60 ha, maximum depth 29.00 m (average 4.50 m), length 3.91 km, width 0.79 km.
The lake has a very varied shoreline. It is divided into two bodies of water - southern and northern (Przylasek). Two streams flow out of the lake. One, called the Wiartel Channel, flows into Lake Brzozolasek. The second - Wiartelnica flows into Lake Nidzkie in the south-western part.
The waters of the lake abound in various species of fish, including: eels, pike, bream, silver carp, catfish.
