On the Gorsselse Heide, not far from Zutphen, lie the remains of two old Dutch shooting ranges. The site was used as a military training area from the mid-19th century. The shooting range itself dates from the first half of the 20th century. The relatively small complex consists of a small plot of land surrounded by a ditch, accessible through a gate. Once on the site, the remains of the shooting range consist of a few concrete rafters and a large earthen bullet trap behind it, with a disc shed where bats are allowed to live!

A beautiful heathland, a former military training ground. This is still evident in the shooting range, which you can climb.
Along the approach road to the heath is a tiny vineyard, now closed, of course, but in the summer you can enjoy a delicious glass of wine there.
After the walk, warm up at café-restaurant De Zessprong.

A route over the beautiful Gorsselse Heide. From the top of the former shooting range you have a beautiful view over the heath. Too bad it's becoming quite overgrown. I explored this area, new to me, via heathland and forest paths.
