Arranged in clusters on a hill dominating the Belbo Valley, Rocchetta was originally a military garrison consisting of a tower and a castle that was later destroyed. Belonging to the Aleramico Marquisate and then to the Ponzone branch, in 1347 it passed to the Municipality of Genoa, which invested it in Enrico del Carretto.
