Notre-Dame-des-Sables, Berck-Plage

Highlight • Religious Site

The construction of the Notre Dame des Sables church dates back more than 100 years. Today, it has regained its original 'red beam' appearance, typical of coastal buildings and reminiscent of the swimwear of that era. The nave was built by shipwrights.

Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc

Highlight • Other

A first church was built in 1886, then another in 1911, the first was too small, and in 1946 it was decided to rebuild everything that had been demolished in 1944. Materials are scarce and the work is slow. The rebuilt church was consecrated on 7 June 1954. Just like in 1911, the church proves to be too small. Therefore, an extension was built as an extension of the right transept, between 1 March 1957 and 1 June 1958. The building has a Latin cross plan, faces north and is flanked on the east side by a parish annex. The southern portal is decorated with rubble and in a few cases with red bricks, which results in a pleasant polychromy. There are four bays up to the transept. Inside, the double and flying buttresses are supported by columns with Corinthian capitals, while a long barrel vault in the framework animates the central nave up to the crossing of the transept, which consists of an octagonal pointed vault.

The covered market was built from 1931 to 1932, it is built on the square which was called, at the time, place de la Demi-Lune, in the neo-regionalist style, in the shape of a semicircle, by the Révillion Company, on the plans of the young Marseille architect Henri-Léon Bloch, associated with an eminent Grand Prix de Rome, Henri-Paul Nénot. In his unpublished autobiography, the architect talks about how he conceived the project,

Today, we headed south on the 🚲. We took advantage of the beautiful bike paths, enjoyed fries and a Heineken at Stella Plage, and then continued on to Berck for some 🦭 sightseeing 😂. The only question is, who's looking at whom?
