Duchess Pond

Highlight • Natural

A lovely little pond on the Stoke Park Estate, this would be a tranquil spot were it not for the nearby M32. Nevertheless, it's a pleasant spot both in terms of its scenery and its wildlife. The pond supports bird species such as reed warbler and reed bunting and is also used for angling.

The Dower House, Stoke Park

Highlight • Viewpoint

Set high on the northeastern end of Purdown, the bright yellow Dower House is a familiar landmark above Bristol. It's set at the far end of the Stoke Park Estate’s parkland, where you will find loads of fun running trails. The house itself was originally built in 1553 and has seen various renovations. Today, it is Grade II-listed.

Brandy Bottom Colliery Ruins

Highlight • Monument

Brandy Bottom Colliery, located just off the Bath-Bristol cycle path, was an important coal mining site in the 19th century, particularly known for its deep mine workings. The site features remnants of the colliery, including old structures and spoil heaps.

It operated during a time of significant coal production in the area before eventually closing.

Today, it serves as a historical point of interest along the cycling route, illustrating the region's industrial heritage

Gaius Sentius is a sculpture of a thirsty Roman legionnaire on the Bristol - Bath cycle way. It was made by Gordon Young in 1992 and commissioned by Sustrans who own and manage this trail.
The sculpture incorporates a water fountain if you need a water bottle refill.

High point on the Cotswold Way just before the descent into Bath begins. From here out it's a gradual decline into the city, though the views remain spectacular as you go down

Kelston Roundhill

Highlight • Viewpoint

Kelston Roundhill affords spellbinding views over Bath, Bristol and Somerset. In clear conditions, you can see both Severn bridges, across to Wales and the Black Mountains, the Wiltshire Downs in the east and the Mendip Hills in the south. The countryside in this neck of the woods is magnificent; a picturesque and quintessentially-English patchwork. A superb section of the Cotswold Way runs over the hill, too.
