Highway underpass CA 14

Highlight • Structure

A long tunnel will lead you from one side of the Highway to the other. It is pitch dark once you are in the middle, so your headlamp will be useful.

Vasquez Rocks area

Highlight • Natural Monument

The PCT leads you through a stunning canyon that is completely different from the surrounding area. Towering rock formations, lush vegetation and a small stream will make you feel as if you have left the desert. There are a lot of signs for different plants, so it is also fantastic to learn more about the flora.

Vasquez Rocks Natural Area Park

Highlight • Natural Monument

The County Park features some stunning rock formations created by the San Andreas Fault. It is no surprise that dozens of movies and TV series have been filmed out here. The Vasquez Rocks were used as background for Star Trek, Planet of the Apes, MacGyver, Bonanza, The Lone Ranger and Twilight Zone.

Since this is a famous spot, you will find some water spigots with potable water as well as pit toilets.

Interesting rock formation in the Sierra Pelona. The setting has been used in many different movies and TV shows, including Star Trek, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey and Zorro.

After leaving Vazquez Park, the PCT turns West to follow parallel to Escondido Canyon Road for half a mile until turning north to the small town of Agua Dulce. Since Hiker Heaven became a paid AirBnB hostel they only accept mail for paid guests with reservations. A better option is 18 miles further north in Green Valley, which has stores and a Post Office.
Before getting here, resupply and mail can be sent to either the KOA in Acton, which is directly on the trail but charges a fee for storing and holding boxes; or the Acton US Post Office, 5.6 miles to the east, which is hitchable or walkable along Soledad Canyon Road from the KOA about 6 miles BEFORE going to Agua Dulce (there are two across the street from each other near the Acton PO), or taking an Uber or Lyft into larger towns like Santa Clarita or Palmdale.
Vons grocery store delivers to Agua Dulce (but not Acton), and they waive the delivery fee for your first order. There is no longer a grocery store in Agua Dulce, and the Sweetwater Bar & Grill closed recently as well. There are three open restaurants right on the trail through Agua Dulce. One serves breakfast. There are hiker-type items and fuel available at the hardware store. The general store is a small convenience store under new ownership.

Agua Dulce & Hiker Heaven

Highlight • Settlement

Hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, you will pass through the small town of Agua Dulce which is famous for the hospitality of Donna and Ray at Hiker Heaven. These great trail angels offered hikers and bikers a stay at their lovely home until 2019. Now you can book a guesthouse with two bedrooms for up to six people via airbnb: airbnb.de/rooms/49142063

Agua Dulce has a hardware store and a liquor store and some restaurants, but no post office. The grocery store burnt down recently.

Vasquez Rocks Interpretive Center

Highlight • Rest Area

If you want to learn more about how the unique Vasquez Rocks were created by earthquakes along the San Andreas Fault, visit the Interpretive Center. There is also a water fountain inside the center as well as restrooms. You can use the picnic benches close to the parking lot.
