Schafteich

Highlight • Lake

The sheep pond is a pond created artificially several hundred years ago. The forest Espich, bordering on the eastern end, has through him extended wetlands which provide a home to many species of animals. He is said to have preserved the name Schafteich, because a shepherd drowned in him who wanted to rescue one of his sheep from the water.

In the Neuteich Limbach-Oberfrohna, the Pfarrbach is dammed for the second time after the Schafteich in the Espichwald on the Tännigt.
In the 20th century, it was also called the Gondelteich because of a gondola station with a snack bar and beer garden located on the dam of the pond. This was abandoned in the 1990s and later converted into private property.

Burgstädt Town Hall

Highlight • Monument

Burgstädt's town hall is one of the most striking buildings in the town. It was originally built by Johann Friedrich Wagner between 1761 and 1763 as a residential building in the Baroque style and is a copy of the Erlangen town hall.

The town hall was rebuilt in 1914. At that time, the town hall housed the police station with prison cells, the library, the offices, apartments, club rooms, the town hall cellar, a free-bank butcher's shop and a savings bank. In 1925, the fire department's equipment shed was opened in the right wing. The museum was located above the fire department's rooms. When the town hall tower was renovated in 1987, the ball with weather vane on the tower was replaced. Documents from 1850, 1928 and 1987 were placed in the ball.

Extensive renovation work was carried out again from 1992 to 2005. Among other things, the porphyry facade with the Baroque risalit gable on the main building was restored.
