Vasil Levski National Stadium

Highlight • Monument

Vasil Levski National Stadium (Bulgarian: Национален стадион „Васил Левски“), named after Bulgarian national hero and revolutionary Vasil Levski (1837–1873), is the country's second largest stadium. The stadium has 43,230 seats and is located in the centre of Sofia, on the territory of the city's oldest and most famous park - the Borisova gradina. The Bulgaria national football team's home matches and the Bulgarian Cup finals are held at the venue, as well as athletics competitions. It was used as the home venue for Levski Sofia's Champions League games, and is often used for important derbies between the big clubs from Sofia, instead of their own home stadiums.

Borisova Garden

Highlight • Forest

Boris Park is the largest public garden in Sofia. A Turkish garrison was located here until the liberation of Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire in 1878. After 1878, the area was initially rededicated as a Turkish cemetery until the city administration decided to build a park on what was then the south-eastern edge of Sofia. The park was first called Plant Garden or Pepienere, later Tsarist Garden (Tsaristrad = Constantinople = Istanbul), later Boris Garden named after the Bulgarian Tsar Boris III. During the period of socialism it was renamed Freedom Park. From 1990 Boris Garden again. Today the park in the heart of Sofia is a very popular destination for all age groups, especially on weekends.
