Moorpadd boardwalk at Neustädter Moor

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

There are no paths that lead directly through the NSG Neustädter Moor. Only on the Moorpadd you can walk through the middle of the boggy moor areas. The 1.3 km long circular route is wonderfully laid out. Swinging board paths lead directly over the water surfaces, the running on the nachfedernden marsh soil is a real treat and who feels like can also wade barefoot through a bog.

At high water levels, the path is not accessible because the planks are then flooded. Even otherwise, it is best to walk here with waterproof footwear.

Moorkuhlen, Neustädter Moor

Highlight • Natural

The peat pits are sites of former manual peat cutting. The steep edges are flattened to prevent them from becoming deadly traps for animals.

The second observation tower on the Neustädter Moor. Quiet area with lots of new garden benches next to the tower. The old train lines are still there. On many bogs peat is transported with such small trains.

From here you can start your journey into the moor adventure! This is also where the moor railway from the moor adventure center ends.

Neustädter Moor Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

This observation tower can be found at the beginning of the Neustädter Moor. The way is well signposted. The environment is very quiet and beautiful. It is a wooden tower with some etajets. From the top you can enjoy the great view of the moor.

Ströhen Dune (Geest dune)

Highlight • Natural Monument

The "mountain" is a pretty little geest dune with heather vegetation. Nice to look at.

March 3, 2023,Mal wieder ins Moor...
...we haven't had one for a long time, most recently almost 24 hours ago.
But this time it wasn't the Südlohner Moor, nor the Aschener, Goldenstedter, Diepholzer or where else we usually hang out. No, since I had things to do in Wagenfeld, I took the opportunity to go from Ströhen to the Neustädter Moor.
You can't get really deep …

...no, not a drinking spree. Damp because the paths were partly well watered and it wasn't without getting my feet wet, and happy because I didn't let it spoil my wonderful hiking mood. At least there was a bright blue sky and a fresh wind was blowing.

More Moor please. Another beautiful piece of earth. Half the birthday (after work from noon) was spent with a cuddly herd of bog sheep with friendly herd dogs, hundreds of screaming cranes, 2 shy deer and an unexpected surprise guest, Mr. Hirsch. What more do you want? Oh yes, e.g. that you survive eating the mushrooms you brought with you. …

We were already guests in Neustädter Moor in October 2020.

Tip: you can find out more about Neustädter Moor on our hiking adventure blog with many more photos and information.

We had planned our current tour because we were hoping to see cranes again. They did show up, but only high up in the sky. As we found out …

Lots of water, always water. Some paths are impassable. The moor fulfils its mission of protecting the climate.
Small flowers on the rosemary heath delight the heart. Benches and the two towers invite you to linger. You can hear cranes, but you can't see them.
