Gatehouses of Schloss Luisium

Highlight • Monument

Prince Franz had Luisium Palace and Park built in the late 18th century as a summer residence for his wife Louise. This is where the princess lived and received her guests. The classical castle is a masterpiece by the architect Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff (1736-1800) and impresses with its harmonious design. The living rooms are decorated with graceful classical painting and stucco and can be visited.
From the castle there are picturesque views of the surrounding landscape: to the arch of ruins in the east or to the Waldersee church further south. The neo-Gothic stud farm to the west can also be seen from the castle. Prince Franz, who was a keen rider, ran a horse farm here.
In the English landscape garden there are numerous garden architectures such as the "snake house", the orangery or the gatehouses.
