Ring Kiln Klausdorf

Highlight • Monument

Klausdorf was founded around 1250 and was named after its founder, Nikolaus.

The fact that many brickworks were built in Klausdorf gave the town economic importance. Around 1913 there were 4 brickworks in Klausdorf alone,
which produced up to 50 million bricks annually. These were then transported by rail
or by barge via the Notte Canal to Berlin and Hamburg.
Remains from this period include a still functioning brickworks with a typical ring kiln and the clay pits that are filled with water. These, the schoolroom in the former elementary school and the lido are popular destinations for visitors to Klausdorf.

Ruins of the Old Brickworks Klausdorf

Highlight • Historical Site

A small "lost place" ... the ruins of the old brickworks, only a few meters from the ring kiln. The rear door is open, so you can look inside and look at everything. Be careful when climbing the ladder, the underground looks a bit rotten.

Former Feldbahn Lockschuppen near the station and with a connection to the clay pits. According to the building permit from 2010, an exhibition building and a field railroad siding should be built there.

Former Brickworks Klausdorf

Highlight • Monument

Former brickworks in Klausdorf am Mellensee

Clay deposits around Klausdorf am Mellensee reached down to the earth's surface and necessitated intensive use for several decades. Before the Thirty Years' War there was already a brick barn here. The residents of Klausdorf dealt with grain cultivation, fishing and brick production. When the waterway to Berlin was expanded in 1856-1864 and the Royal Prussian Military Railway was built around 1874-1875 with a stop at Rehagen-Klausdorf station, the transport of the bricks was made easier and brick production in Klausdorf became the main source of income. From 1868 the first large brickworks (Maass, Fasskessel, Arndt) were built. The Klausdorf brickworks Arndt and Fasskessel received their own siding.
Brick production in Klausdorf came to an end in the mid-1990s.
