St. Trinitatis City Church

For the first time in 1192 a church is mentioned in Gommern. Judging from the remains of the old walls, it was probably a three-aisled basilica built of rubble in the Romanesque style. This first church building was destroyed during the Thirty Years War.
The reconstruction started in 1692 and lasted almost ten years. The result was an elongated hall building with pointed arch windows that was just closed to the east. It was not until 1714 that the square west tower was added, which is equipped with an octagonal curved hood and a lantern. From 1894 to 1897 extensive rebuilding took place. Two pointed-headed side turrets, a polygonal apse, a sacristy in the south, and neo-Gothic gable towers were added.
