Gottmannsförde Manor House

Highlight • Historical Site

Gottmannsförde is quiet and idyllic at the gates of the state capital Schwerin in the scenic Stepenitztal. In 1348 Gottmannsförde is mentioned in a document from Count Otto v. Schwerin mentioned for the first time. Bolto von Drieberg is listed as a gentleman in Gottmannsförde and the village remains in the possession of the von Drieberg family until 1781. Thereafter, until 1829 the owners of Gottmannsförde changed six times. In 1829 Johann Friedrich von Böhl acquired the place after a public tender by the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg. The last owner until the expulsion and expropriation in 1945 was Margot von Böhl.

The manor house was built in 1847 in neo-Gothic architecture. During the GDR era, the facade was significantly simplified and the building was deprived of any decoration. In 1991 Raimar v. Böhl and v. Klass and his wife returned to Gottmannsförde, bought the completely run-down manor house and the overgrown park and leased the agricultural land. In the meantime, the son Alexander has taken over the farm in the 6th generation. A bright and friendly furnished holiday apartment with a beautiful view of the adjacent manor park can be rented in the manor house.

To the right and left of the road there are two reservoirs of the Stepenitz. As far as I know, the Stepenitz was dammed here in the 1970s. It is worth taking a short break here to enjoy nature.

Vietlübbe Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The Romanesque church is considered the oldest village church in the country and was built on a floor plan similar to that of a Greek isosceles cross. It was built between 1205 and 1215. However, the tower above the crossing was built of wood in the 17th/18th century.
