Lake Segeberg

Highlight • Lake

Easy to moderately difficult route, perfect for warm days as there's plenty of shade. There's also a superbly maintained outdoor pool for cooling off, as well as the absolutely charming Café Goldmarie with delicious cappuccino and cake. Highly recommended as a reward after a lap around the lake :)

Goldmarie by the Lake Café

Highlight • Cafe

Bad Segeberg (kf). Enjoy a leisurely breakfast with a view of the Great Segeberg Lake – this is possible again from Thursday, October 17, at the Goldmarie am See.

Jan-Hendrik Stahlberg, Britta Fischer, and their team are kicking off the winter season. They are offering a personalized breakfast in addition to the existing menu of lunch, savory snacks, and coffee and cake during opening hours from Thursday to Sunday, starting at 9:30 a.m.

"To ensure as many guests as possible can enjoy breakfast, we have two seating times," says Jan-Hendrik Stahlberg. The Goldmarie am See is open until 5 p.m. on these days during the winter season and invites you to enjoy a relaxing time in the café.

Events outside of opening hours are also possible upon request for corporate events or groups. Inquiries and reservations can be made by calling 0 45 51 / 9 08 44 57 or by emailing info@goldmarieamsee.de.

Anyone interested in supporting the Goldmarie am See service team part-time for 20 hours or more is also welcome to apply.

From December 9, 2024, to February 12, 2025, the Goldmarie am See team will be on holiday. "We look forward to your visit before and after the break," says Jan-Hendrik Stahlberg.

Great Segeberg Lake

Highlight • Lake

Within the lakes of East Holstein, the Great Segeberger See is characterized by a special history.
After a salt dome with gypsum or anhydrite rock rose to the surface due to salt tectonics, groundwater released after the thawing of the glacial permafrost could gradually dissolve rock salt and gypsum in the subsoil and leach out cavities in the subsoil (subrosion). The overlying rock and sediment layers sagged, leaving depressions that filled with water. In the process, several lake basins were formed, which were initially covered by a contiguous body of water. After a natural lowering of the lake level, possibly due to a sinkhole event at a later time, the original body of water divided into the Großer Segeberger See and the significantly smaller Klüthsee to the northeast.
The Große Segeberger See is part of the gypsum karst landscape of Bad Segeberg and is therefore related to the Kalkberg and its cave

Noctalis Bat Centre Bad Segeberg

Highlight • Structure

The cave is fantastic - not least because you have to drive a long way to get to other caves. It is completely closed in the winter half-year because that is when the bats hibernate and in the summer half-year it is only accessible with a guide. But that doesn't detract from the interest at all - a visit to this cave is really a real highlight.

Kalkberg, Bad Segeberg

Highlight • Natural Monument

Is worth a visit!
The view in good weather is fantastic.
And it is the only rock mountain in the big circle! The next one should be in the Harz ☺️
By the anhydrite or gypsum mining, from which the mountain actually exists, he lost his former height of about 110m and 9/10 of its mass.

It's very interesting to see everything from above and take a look behind the scenes.
The way up leads over stone and rock steps with railings, with intermediate levels with a view and some information boards.

From the Promenate you have a nice wide view over the big lake Segeberger.
