St. Catherine's Church in Bünsdorf.
How long the massive fieldstone walls of this single-nave, Romanesque church
have rested on their foundations on the small hill at the southern tip of Lake Witten is shrouded in mystery over the centuries.
Whether it already existed at the time of the first known documentary mention of the village of "Bunesthorpe" ("village of Buni") in 1190 is doubtful.
The oldest known reference is found in a document dated 1355
and already mentions "Bunsdorpe" as a long-established parish.
A devastating fire that burned the church to its foundations in 1659 destroyed all essential church records and thus valuable information about the church's history.

Gut Sehestedt

Highlight • Historical Site

The spacious courtyard of the Sehestedt estate still dominates the image of the town on the north side. The estate stands on the site of an old moated castle and was surrounded by a moat until 1865.
A wide path, the dam, leads from the country road across the estate to the manor house built in 1728. Barns, a carriage house and a cottage on the north-western edge of the farmyard characterize the townscape with their picturesque arrangement.
The three barns are a connected row of thatched half-timbered buildings. In contrast to the other buildings of the farm, they still exist in their original form.
For the decimated total inventory of the estate, which has been documented since the 13th century, they still give a vivid idea of the old, former complex, which is now characterized by changes and modernization. The barn, a three-post half-timbered building with a longitudinal passage and subsequent central cross access, was built in 1807 (the interior was rebuilt in 1990/92). The carriage house with rows of large gates on the courtyard side and the cottage date from the same period. As important examples of Schleswig-Holstein estate architecture, the three buildings were listed as historical monuments in September 1996.
The farm complex is still used by the Ahlmann family as an agricultural operation. In 1997, the "Alte Meierei" was rebuilt and now offers space for eight families.
