Loch Alvie

At the B9153 - A95 junction it's safe to stop and have a look at the awesome views up towards the northern Cairngorms.
The A roads here are fast (for bikes and vehicles) and sometimes have big lorries so you need to watch out. Cycling is popular here though, so bikes shouldn’t be a surprise for drivers and the roads are fun to ride fast. There are lots of smaller roads you can escape onto if it feels a bit busy.

View of the Cairngorms from Nethy Bridge Road

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

The road from the A939 mountain road down to Nethy Bridge is quieter and a great alternative to staying on the main road. The descent is fast and fun or it's a good long but never too steep ascent. Great views as you drop[p down from the high mountain road to the Spey valley.

Lecht Ski Centre Summit

Highlight • Summit

Tough climb in either direction, but slightly easier from the North. A real sense of achievement when summited.
Great views over Donside and the surrounding hills.

This is arguably the most scenic view you will get of the Loch Garten and the greenery around it.

Cairngorm Mountain Road Climb from Glenmore

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

The Cairngorm Mountain Base Station at the top of this road climb is the information centre & booking office for the ski lifts and railway. There is also a shop, cafe and toilets if you fancy a rest. It's Open every day from 9:00 - 16:00.
The road climb really starts at Aviemore which is at around 200m, but you only gain about 100m to reach Loch Morlich and Glenmore Lodge. Once you pass the loch the climb really starts ramping up. The first section through the woods is nice and sheltered, a good warm up. At about 490m you leave the trees and the final section with switchback turns is exposed and can be very tough in strong winds. The Base Station is at 620m.

River Feshie at Feshiebridge

Highlight • River

Feshiebridge is part of a beautiful, peaceful forest that leans against the great mass of the Cairngorm mountains. There are beautiful paths along the wide grassy bank of the River Feshie, perfect for a picnic, and there are a number of intriguing sculptures to discover among the trees, created by acclaimed artist Frank Bruce.

Ruthven Barracks

Highlight • Castle

Occupying a prominent position above the town of Kingussie, Ruthven Barracks is a spectacular sight. The ruins are wonderfully well preserved and entrance is free. On a good day, a walk up here for sunrise or sunset will not disappoint, with superb views of the unique Cairngorm landscape.

Built in 1719 by George II's government in response to the failed Jacobite rising of 1715, troops stationed here were tasked to maintain law and order in the region. It survived a 300-strong Jacobite attack in 1745 but one year later the barracks were destroyed by retreating Jacobites after the Battle of Culloden, prior to their surrender.
