Trans Pennine Trail: Selby to York Cycle Path

Highlight • Cycleway

It's very safe. So great for kids. In some areas there are some bumps in surface due to tree roots. The honesty hut is a nice place to stop and (if stocked up and you have some pennies for the honesty box) you can get a biscuit or two.

The Fisher of Dreams

Highlight • Monument

A large wire figure of a man in a bobble hat sitting on top of the bridge, with a fishing rod hanging out over the River Ouse, on the end of his line he has caught the 'Flying Scotsman' train which used to run on the railway line that used this bridge – now decommissioned. It is part of the Sustrans route 65 cycle way.

Naburn Railway Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Old railway bridge that was part of the east coast mainline and used heavily in WW2. A good crossing point on the White Rose cycle way.

This scale model of the Solar System is spread out along 6.4 miles of the old East Coast main-line railway. Along it you can find scale models of all the planets in our solar system as well as models of the Cassini and Voyager spacecraft

This is the York end of the 6.4 mile York Solar System Cycleway that heads southwards towards Selby along the former East Coast railway line on a Sustrans bike route.

It's a pan-flat disused railway with incredibly hard-packed gravel that's basically tarmac so any touring bike would cope. The whole stretch of the bike path is laid out like a scale model of the Solar System, with scale models of all the planets in our solar system on the edge of the track – naturally, in the order that you'd find them away from the sun. A really great educational addition to what is otherwise a beautiful, albeit quite standard, bike path!
