The Camel Trail

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

The Camel Trail is 17 miles (27 km) long and runs from Padstow to Wenford Bridge. An old railway line, it is level and firm and largely either downhill or flat if you start in Padstow. Although there are some undulations, it is ideal for families or less experienced cyclists.

The Camel Trail

Highlight • River

Winding 30 miles (48 km) from Bodmin Moor to the sea, the River Camel is a beautiful stretch of water in Cornwall. The Camel Trail runs along stretches of the river, making it even more enjoyable for cyclists. The river is a haven for birds and other animals thanks to its varied habitats. Look out for peregrine falcons, kingfishers, and even bottlenose dolphins.

At Poley's Bridge, you can see the leaping Salmon sculptures, which commemorate the salmon in the River Camel. Although not plentiful, they are certainly present.

Snail's Pace Cafe

Highlight • Cafe

Great place to have lunch or an afternoon tea with both inside and outdoor seating. The cafe is open from 9:30am to 4pm and they also offer bike hire.

There is nothing much else to do at Wenfordbridge, but there is a pottery shop and gallery, though it wasn't open when I was there.

Delford Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Delford Bridge is a pretty clapper bridge dating back to medieval times. It is a wonderful place for dogs and hikers to take a paddle. Cattle and sheep roam freely here so you might meet them at the water's edge too.
