View from Larpool Viaduct

Also known as the Esk Valley Viaduct, the Larpool Viaduct's 13 arches carry the Scarborough & Whitby Railway over the River Esk. Stunning views from the top!

Cock Mill Wood

This used to be one of the eight stations on a line between Scarborough and Whitby, but closed in 1965. Now, the buildings are owned privately, but Trailways offer some services - the train car is used as self-catering accommodation.

There's also bike hire here and tourist / visitor information. Refreshments are usually served inside the car too, although this is temporarily closed at present, so check before you go.

A very nice track, suitable for gravel bikes but maybe more comfortable on MTB. It's a very long hill but be cautious and do not road test a new bike you have built on it all the way down and then immediately snap your chain and realise you haven't brought any spare links or the tool. If you do do that, it's a long 8 mile push back to the top, but very scenic.

River Esk Road

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

A short stretch of a road east of Ruswarp, between the Ruswarp suspension bridge and Larpool Lane. The road is part of the National Cycle Network route 165. There are beautiful views of the River Esk for much of the way along here, but also of Cock Mill Beck (a tributary of the Esk). A lovely and gentle ride through a beautiful landscape.
