Harlech Castle

Highlight • Viewpoint

Against stiff competition from Conwy, Caernarfon and Beaumaris, this is probably the most spectacular setting for an Edward I castle in North Wales. All four are recognized as World Heritage Sites.
Harlech was completed from ground to battlements in just seven years under the guidance of the gifted architect Master James of St. George. The classic 'walls within walls' design makes optimal use of the difficult natural defenses.
Even when the castle was completely cut off by Madog ap Llewelyn's rebellion, it held strong – thanks to the 'Way from the Sea'. Via this path of 108 steps, which climbed steeply up the rock face, the besieged defenders could be supplied with food and drink by ship.
Harlech is easier to conquer these days. You can enter this amazing castle via an incredible 'floating' walkway.

A series of five carved chairs around Harlech. Great idea to get the children outside to find them all, with scan codes at each one for more details. I believe this is number 3 over looking Harlech Castle.

Pont Briwet Bridge and Estuary

Highlight • Bridge

Pont Briwet is a road and railway bridge which crosses the River Dwyryd. Built in the 19th century by the Cambrian Railway Company, the bridge is a rare example of a Victorian-era wooden road and rail viaduct. As the bridge was deemed unsafe from 2013, a new bridge was built including a cycle lane.

Porthmadog Harbour

Highlight • Settlement

The marina is important to the city and remains a vibrant, vibrant center of activity. Porthmadog has an attractive harbor and attracts sailors and pleasure boaters from all over Europe who are keen to enjoy the beautiful coastline and explore the surrounding countryside. With ample moorings, maritime services and a lively atmosphere, it is one of the most popular moorings in Wales.

Beautiful small Welsh town with plenty of cafés, a nice sea front, promenade, pebble beach, and a rather obvious 13th century castle overlooking the town.

Cariad Gelato

Highlight • Cafe

Awesome Italian style gelato made locally and sold in the shop in Porthmadog or from a cool little kiosk on the sea front in Criccieth. Loads of great flavours that change regularly.
Open 10:30 - 17:30 Mon to Sat and 11:00 - 17:30 on Sunday.

The Cob Causeway

Highlight (Segment) • Bridge

This mile-long causeway crosses River Glaslyn as it reaches the estuary. Opened in 1811, this causeway carries the Ffestiniog Railway as well as an A road and a cycle path. Riding along here gives you fantastic views north to Snowdonia’s mountains and across the wetlands of the River Glaslyn. A wall entirely blocks your view south to the estuary, but you won’t care because the mountains are so beautiful from here.

The cycle path is traffic-free so you can easily stop whenever you like to soak up the views.
