Tweedbank Station

Highlight • Rest Area

A train station might not be the most glamorous of highlights to visit, but it's more about what it enables you to do.

Tweedbank Station is the southern terminus of the Borders Railway, giving great access to the Scottish Borders. Whether you're on a bike or on foot, you can travel here from major cities and connecting lines for an incredibly remote and wild adventure in the Borderlands.

Skirmish Hill

Highlight • Historical Site

The hill's name likely derives from the bloody 1526 engagement, which, despite its significant scale, was perhaps simplified over time in local folklore.

River Tweed South Bank

Gattonside Suspension Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

This impressive suspension footbridge spans the River Tweed from Melrose to the village of Gattonside.

It was opened in 1826 and is an early surviving example of this type of bridge.

There's a notice on the bridge advising no more than eight people at one time and no swinging.

North Bank of the River Tweed

Highlight (Segment) • River

A lovely, serene stretch along the banks of River Tweed. By a bit of a contrast to the southern bank on the other side of the river, this one is more wooded and provides some more visual variety. It is easy to visit the town of Gattonside, which is just to the north of you from here.
